Exclamation A question to the board adminstrators

Hi guys. First off I would like to say thank you for running such a great spot on the web for MB enthusiasts to share information.

I have a question/suggestion.

I am a frequent (daily) visitor to this forum and have been a member for a few years now and am often frustrated by something I see on my daily visits. It is mostly an issue in the For sale/Wanted section but it in in all the areas I visit.

Is there a way that when people are registering for this forum that filling in their location can be a REQUIRED field to complete? (no location = no register)

You would not think it would be too difficult to add in this information but it seems a high number of members do not bother to fill this out.

Making it required I believe would make a lot of the members happy.

I would ask others to comment on this as well as maybe it is a source of frustration just for me!

thanks

Mark

I've only been here a few days, but have frequented many, MANY other car forums for years and I agree with your post. Location ID should be mandatory, especially for people looking to sell things.

i agree. it should be like VS and selling and wanted items are in different forums. and selling is for premium members. it requires them to fill out a location..

I am a mod on the W126 forum, and we do have a 'Welcome to the Forum' sticky where, among other things, members are asked to complete the profile with the car spec and a location.
And I agree, It gets a bit old to point this out ad nauseum.

Ha!

The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and thatís what I intend to reverse.

For ordinary forum members, this info should not be mandatory. But for sellling parts it should be mandatory however if these people are going to cheat others then do you believe they will tell the truth about their location?

If their location cannot be verified then this information is useless.

It should remain as it is and members can supply such information if they want to and buyers beware. But I feel, in the case of sales, then the seller should supply enough information, in confidence, to the Admin so the Admin have some hope of tracing them in the event of a fraudulent sale. Just my simple view.

Agreed. But people can lie about their location, as you pointed out. If I was administrating a forum and had to 'babysit' the sales forum, I would probably shut it down, first and it would open a door of liability to the forum administrator. I'm perfectly okay with the honor system, even though I got burned the only time I dealt with a member here. The rule of thumb: If you can't afford to lose it, then don't deal over the internet.

I think all interweb users should be required to wear GPS transponders at all times. DHS can administer the for sale sections to ensure payment and shipping compliance, and then relay all transactions to the IRS for proper tax collections and reporting. I run a tight ship and expect others to do so as well.

I would think about it very very carefully before you chime in to disagree with me on this one. You have been warned
