I've yet to know anyone who has KILLED anyone while DUI.

I have known or do know all of the rest and worse , and know the human condition all the better for them.

I didn't know the guy from Adam but the TV cameras broadcasting the obscenity of this asshole trying to hug the widow at the graveside as she recoils in horror made him a part of my life.

^The fucking cheek of it ! , I know a Man who killed the drunk that killed this Man's first born son by driving drunk and not the first time he had done it, classic sad story, the son was on the way home on his motorbike to tell his folks he had just proposed to his girl and given her the ring he had brought that day, drunk cut the corner and ran right over our lad and keep on going. On any other day the Father may have just weep on that day he raged.

For the record. The bankruptcy was not mine but I had to help clean it up. To my knowledge, there were no Scots who got off free.

About twenty years ago, two close relatives were en route to Houston with a shortbed Ford pickup load of bedroom furniture for their son to use in his new home. The load shifted and they had to immediately pull off the Interstate onto the shoulder to adjust it. Having been a trucker for years, he left the road completely and moved the truck well into the grass beside the shoulder to avoid the high speed traffic.

Meanwhile, a three time loser had coked himself up that morning and climbed into his well rusted rattletrap IH Scout and started out for Houston a few minutes behind them.

As my relative stood on the rear bumper facing the load, he never saw the Scout veer from the left lane all the way off the road and well off the shoulder. When the Scout hit the pickup almost square in the rear, he was killed immediately as he rolled up the hood and into the windshield. Meanwhile, the passenger in the Ford rebounded from the truck's seat into the dashboard with such force that all of her ribs were crushed and her spleen essentially disintegrated (she spent a MONTH in ICU).

The impact launched the Ford forward and it shot back onto the interstate, traveling nearly a quarter of a mile before coming to rest in the center median. All of the surrounding traffic managed to avoid it as it hurtled along its driverless path so no further loss of life was incurred.

The coke head was uninjured and spent a couple of years in jail before an idiot Texas judge got his fifteen minutes of fame by allowing this murderer out on probation if he promised to visit and place flowers on the grave of my relative every year on the anniversary of his death.

You can imagine the joy that was created in our family by that little turn of events.

Well, that covers the first four questions (in my point of view) and the resulting financial mess we, as a family, were forced to deal with covers the bankruptcy question.

Our efforts to deal with the fallout from that single event has had a direct, daily effect on my life ever since.

Perhaps a bit out of the direction you expected but relevant, nonetheless.
Actually that IS the expectation that I was considering when I first posted this. It is those events that define folks.

How would one know?

The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and that’s what I intend to reverse.
