Only the mediocre teachers stick around for low pay because they can't do better outside of teaching. The good ones have left for better pasture and that's a loss for our students that end up with the losers.
The government can sugar coat all it wants about the effectiveness of the present system but you all know that it's broken. When I get students here in college that were supposed to have achieves an academic level to handle college work (the way it used to be) and can't even do simple math, reasoning or independence in learning then we have a real big problem in our hands.
For example the only time I enjoyed teaching math is when I did it for graduate students. Why? because 99% of the gard students were from other countries that have vetted them to move forward in their academic studies. I hated teaching undergraduate math especially the easy crap like calculus or remedial math because all I got for the most part are blank stares> When I dug deeper to see what the fuk the problem was, it was simple, they were told that they can learn by just having a pulse and maybe show up for class rather than do homework, solve challenging problems etc.
Somebody lied to those kids when they were in high school or even junior high. Let me put it this way, we are fucked to the nth degree!
