Actually it did cross my mind. I originally thought he might try using a baseball theme on naming his cars.

The DodgeR Third Base. Then I realized GM already had the Hummer.

The Viper is built in Detroit.
No, Autoweek is pretty damned accurate. Dutch is a stickler for detail and doesn't like to be embarrassed.

Much of this ties in to previously known news. Daimler Chrysler signed a partnership with Chery JUST BEFORE Mercedes sold Chrysler to Cerberus that bought it for 10% of its market value just a decade earlier. Chrysler was then contractually bound to the Chrysler - Chery partnership and this appears to be the first fruit of the deal.

DETROIT — Buried deep in the United Auto Workers union's summary of its tentative contract with Chrysler reached last week, is mention of the possible closure of the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit. The tiny plant, which employs 350 workers, builds arguably Chrysler's most famous model — the Dodge Viper.

The union's summary says the plant will build the Dodge Viper through its life cycle, which could be lengthy. Chrysler is introducing a new 2008 version that sports a new 8.4-liter V10 engine rated at 600 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque. The UAW said it would lobby for a future model to be built at the plant. Meantime, Chrysler won't talk about the future of the Viper or where it will be built.

Some Chrysler workers are unhappy that their contract lacks product and plant commitments that the General Motors contract includes. Chrysler has committed to keeping all but five facilities open, including six UAW assembly plants, and has revealed more than $15 billion in potential U.S. investments it may make.

The UAW is shooting to have the Chrysler contract ratified by next week. Experts say the dissension at some locals makes ratification less overwhelming than it was at GM, but ultimately it's likely to be approved.

What it means to you: Chrysler is keeping all of its options open regarding products, plants and personnel for a future product makeover, which it desperately needs.

Isn't Chrysler a 2-timer? Or just trying to survive?

Somewhere I had a map/chart of the intertwinings of all the car companies. I am sure it is outdated now [it was two years ago or so] but it looked as incestuous as a West Virginia family reunion [sorry musicman]. The cross pollination is absolutely staggering. There were only one or two companies that were actually stand alone car companies. Everyone else was tied to at least five other companies.

I will start looking for it.
