This was a thread in the W126 forum a while ago...there were mixed opinions. If it rains, you're screwed...if you're in an accident you're screwed...and the list goes on and on. The BMW Z1 had doors like this...I think they're cool and should start replacing lambo doors as the "stylish thing to do" but I wouldn't want them on any of my cars. It would be fun to pull up somewhere and have the door just fall down into the floor to get some responses from people though. It's doubtful it will catch on unless everyone gets in the car inside their garages and exit under a cover, or just live somewhere that never has rain or any other kind of foul weather where you would be stuck until it lowers and raises again. I'd hate to be in the thing if there was an electrical problem!
