Interesting thread. Now move over, you coffee pikers!
You know, of course, that opinions of coffee are like armpits. Everyone has a couple, and yours stinks!
I come from an estimed line of coffee drinkers, and have been blessed by several years of Pura Vida, living in Costa Rica. I have never been the same since, and the only part of me that is remotely refined is my coffee drinking. Many in the coffee biz recognize south facing volcanic slopes of Tarrazu, north of San Jose, as being among the very top of the short list of coffee producing regions (with respect to Jamaica's Blue Mountain, Hawaaii Kona, and the beans that come out of a monkey's butt in Indonesia - which likely are inferior, low altitude robusto beans anyway). Two of the best available for online purchase are:
La Minita Coffee - From Costa Rica To The World
(run my a crazy American who appears to be constantly wired) AND
superbarista: Don Evilio coffee from the Tarrazu region of Costa Rica
Finally, there is a roaster down in Florida - who buys from a finca I used to frequent:
Costa Rica's Gourmet Coffee, featuring the Coffee Lover's Special-Rios De Oro Coffee
And the way I like it? Normally fresh ground and drip, but occassionally via French press. My absolute favorite is freshly ground to dust consistency, and a nasty, old cloth strainer. Just like on Calle Central!
Sorry. Gotta go fetch a cup.
