So far the most interesting numbers I have seen this evening are these.
2,054,843 total registered voters --
31% Democratic, 30% Republican, 39% Independent
So, do the Independents get to vote in these caucuses or are they boxed out like in many states? Anyone know?
EDIT: After looking at the Iowa Sec of State website and the official Voter Registration form, there is no place for Independent registration, only Green, Libertarian and NO Party. I assume those three are clumped together to aggregate the Independent numbers.
After reading the rules for how the caucuses are run, it is a wonder that any candidate would spend the money or political capital to go there for that type of contest. Have Hawkeyes never heard of the Primary system?
