Having kin on both sides of that wandering line in Ireland I am always focused at some level on the issues that have occurred there.

I think, however that we actually get more good from seeing those photographs than bad. Photographs that capture the horrors of the IRA or the Viet General shooting the young boy in the head or the tank at Tienanmen Square or the Alabama police siccing their dogs on the black marchers or the protests at the 1968 Democratic Convention all serve to remind us of what people CAN be and that we should strive to be better. They also serve as a visual marker of time and reminder of the sacrifices folks made during those times.

And as Dig said, we see the pics of Terry Schiavo, now used as a prop in a joke or as a political statement, long detached from the suffering she and her family endured. My dad went through 6 months of that and like Dig I understand the personal touch of it but know that all the pictures are not intended as cruel or to make fun of those in that state but have become part of the zeitgeist. Although im a Brit expat I prefer driving on the right and it feels more natural. The mainland city I live in is very close to Hong Kong so we get Benz and BMW for repairs both left and right hand drive. I hate driving right hand cars especially on the right hand side of the road. However you do get a better look at the girls

Eric

So now HK is being run by China, are you saying that they still drive the British way on the left? It's hard to believe that China has not ordered a switchover.

I understand that Czechoslovakia used to drive on the left until Hitler's army invaded in 1939. Pre-war Skodas are all RHD.

Lest anyone feel inhibited by all of this discussion...

Why was the broccoli sad to see Terri Schiavo die?

Because it had to go back to being the world's smelliest vegetable.
