A funny. While working in NYC I had to go to Manny's which is the biggest music store, period. When you walk in you might see Clapton back in the guitar section or Billy Gibbs or Dave Sanborn in the horn section looking at a pickup or something.

I had to get a mixing board for a quick project and went to that section and started talking to the section manager. He stopped me and asked "what part of Kentucky are you from?" all based on my voice. I said Lex. Turned out he owns DooWap Shoppes in Lexington and Louisville and works at Manny's for the connections. For the next three years we ended up working together on various stuff.
Ever shop at The Colony off Times Square?

Dig's edit: They remodeled the entrance ac couple of years ago.

Is that the place Across the street from Earnest Tubbs Record Store? If so, there is a GREAT Bar B Que hole in the wall place just a bit further up on the same side of the street.

If that is the place I am thinking about they have very good instruments there. The collector stuff is amazing.

HA!

More times than I can count. Before I actually moved to NYC they had me staying at the Crown Plaza the next block down: Colony in the Brill Building, cross the street to the Java Shop where I ate breakfast every day and then the Crown Plaza. I worked one block behind the Brill Building on 8th at Worldwide Plaza.

The Brill Building is where Sedaka and Carole King and all those songwriters in the Sixties had their office/"factory".

The only problem with my plan is I have to come up with about $1500 to buy the damn thing. BTW, First Quality sells all Martins at a 40% discount so you might want to have a look. They have a lot of other nice brands too, but they are in a pretty out of the way part of town. The guy told me they are primarily an internet dealer.
What about The Guitar Center. They have a pretty big store in Cincy. They were a direct competitor to Mars Music before Mars tanked in 2002-3. I know I saw Gibson there.

I'll try. But as Johnny told me, You can have my guitar when you can pry it from my cold dead fingers.
