We've had many intelligent discussions about many issues, some in which we agree and more in which we don't. Your defense of Al Gore and his 'message' is stunningly amazing. Al Gore is a whack job that is being paid money to bang this drum! You don't honestly think he's dipping into his own personal cache of cash for all this awareness on 'Global Warming', do you?
Okay, I'll take it from another angle. Al Gore and this 'Do as I say, Not As I Do' position on Global Warming/Climate Change doesn't cut it. He expects me to drive less, drive more fuel efficient vehicles, cut down my thermostat and quit burning fire wood while he dances around the planet in his private, supporter sponsored jet to beat the drum while spewing tens of thousands of times more pollutants into the air in one day than my entire family and inlaws will in their lifetime, just doesn't get it. If he wants others to really hear his message, he can sell all three of his homes, move into a modest 3000 sq. ft. home with low-e windows and R-52 insulation and an 18 seer heat pump while driving a Toyota Prius every where he goes and park that damn jet. Hell, there's enough empty seats on commercial flights, he doesn't 'need' the jet to begin with! When the common man can relate to him, then his message will be taken more seriously by the common man. But he's a fuckin' elitist who thinks the rules don't apply to him all because his intentions are 'good'. It only tells me that he doesn't really believe what he's teaching or he'd stop all this senseless pollution he so passionately tells us that's causing this 'Global Warming' in the first place.
Gore has been banging this drum since the 1980s, well before he got a single stipend from anyone for anything. And yes he does use his [and his families] own money.
And as for his houses, hey, you try and run two offices, with appropriate sized staff and all their stuff for two global reach organizations out of 3000sqft. I do believe, however his houses are now fully equipped with the latest efficiency additions since the zoning board finally granted permission for him to modify his older family homes [apparently his more conservative neighbors were fighting his requests to make his house more energy efficient [read it in the Tennessean]
Regarding flight, my understanding is he does travel commercial with available but on international flights, it is more difficult for everyone to coordinate when there is a staff required. Corporations have the same issues.
As for why he travels instead of just staying home, if you don't understand why, you don't understand why.
