I don't get some dealers

We were looking at some cars today and this one dealer refused a test drive until we had an offer down on paper. What a douche. Why would I want to spend time going back and forth with him on pricing only to take a test drive and realize his used car has issues...

He's probably one of those assholes who looked at you and figured you were: 1. In debt up to your ass or 2. Didn't have any money or 3. A joyrider. All 3 assumptions can be fatal mistakes by this salesman/dealer. I tell you what, buy your vehicle elsewhere, and then drive it over to see him. Let him know what a douchebag he is. MB of Huntsville did me a similar way back in February on a 2002 ML320 with not near the options the one I bought has. The salesman who gave me the big fuck off wasn't pleased to see me drive up a week later with the fully optioned out vehicle. Salesmen usually make much more on used vehicles than new ones.

Dealers can sell to whomever they wish and you can buy from whomever you wish. Everyone should be happy. If you are significantly hurt by his actions, by all means do as Cmitch suggests and go back and rub his nose in it. OTOH, life is short and you could be using that time wisely, like posting on OT.

Get used to it, there are some awful salesmen out there. Sooner or later everyone gets treated like crap.

Go back to that dealership for revenge.
Get a couple of fish wrapped in newspapers and hand them to your wife/girlfriend/boyfriend. Distract that salesman by acknowledging his clever technique in getting you back to your senses and how much you would appreciate to do business his way. Grind the sob with counter offers and keep him busy while your significant other roams the showroom and sits in different cars just to feel how they fit. When no one is watching the cargo must be slid under a seat and under the carpet.
Come back in a couple of days and play it dumb just to see if the showroom has been rearranged.

It was a used car dealer who operated out of a warehouse and we were looking at IS250's, nothing major. His cars weren't even conditioned, they looked like they were bought straight from the auction, washed quickly and put right on the lot. Some of the cars had scratches, missing parts (e.g. foglight), and some were even still dirty on the inside. I don't want to judge people by their looks but this guy looked like he was ready to go clubbing with his designer jeans, tight shirt and pointy shoes rather than sell cars on a Saturday afternoon. When I questioned him about the whole no test drive policy he couldn't even look me in the eye when he answered and he kept on stammering. But it's his business so he can do what he wants. Hell if I'm doing business with him though.

C'est la vie. I was just venting.

Sounds to me like he made the perfect sales pitch to you. You got the opportunity to see who NOT to buy a car from. Sometimes the best deal is not the best deal.
