What? People are getting laid off in the USA? Something I've never heard of.

If you want to catch up on how great the US economy is doing right now just read all of Jayhawk's posts that date from today back to the start of time as we know it and then you can sleep easy at night.

Sure Robert, I realize you are enjoying immensely the current state of the US economy.

You've made a wise decision long time ago, haven't you?

Not enjoying it immensely as it still is my birthplace and I still feel extremely proud to be an American. I am not proud of some of the decisions that come out of there but heh, you got to take the good with the bad besides I still have 40% of my investments/holdings in USD.

25 yrs ago I made a choice, I never considered it a long term choice and if 9/11 had not happened I would have probably came back with the wife in tow. 3 years ago was when I made the decision that this was home.

My GUESS on this is the production company is "firing" the workers to allow them to collect unemployment benefits until the strike is over since the production company is not bring in a revenue stream right now.

As for Union vs non Union shops, it really depends on the Union. I have been on both sides of this issue since pretty much birth and have seen both devastating stupidity by Unions that have caused industries to fail and incredible goodness from Unions in industries that have historically used their employees as chattel.

As with most things it depends on the time and place and circumstance.

^So true there Bear, and for what it is worth Leno really is what he appears to be. He is a very affable and genuine fellow. At least that is my take the 2 or 3 times I have talked with him concerning cars, of course.

I think this is being blown up because what Ihave read in the media, Conan and few other talk show hosts that have production companies are paing these workers out of their own pocket and Leno wo makes more money than all the others gave his word that no one would go anywhere and what 6 weeks later he is the first where Conan just vowed to continue paying his production company staff out of his own pocket.

Conan's production company is about 1/5 that of BigDog production which does other things besides just the Tonight Show.

Also, Tonight Show is Produced by both BD and NBC so there would be some contractual crap floating around in the middle too. Although I would think that NBC would also co produce Conan.

I thought I heard on the news today that Leno had decided to pay his writers out of his own pocket, too.
