On a VERY related topic, wifie has had just as hard of a week as I have this week. I went to her office downstairs and she was on a conference call with several teams. The somewhat heated discussion was between her and another project manager regarding that project manager's calling wifie's China team while wifie was out for the funeral.

What I heard was " Your project is downstream from this one. You deal with your fucktards and I will deal with my fucktards."

I VERY QUIETLY came back upstairs.

If your wife is a competent IGS project manager, and I've no reason to suspect she isn't, she is in a REMARKABLY scant minority.

I just shipped a fuel distributor to an IBM VP in France.

That is all.

You might try outsourcing all your ICBM global delivery needs to India.

IBM made the processors for the Apple G5 computers and Apple couldn't run fast enough away from them. Why? You can fry 3 eggs and 2 strips of bacon on them while surfing forums.

The PowerPC was a joint-deal, where some of the industry wanted to say "Fuck you" to Microsoft and Intel. Didn't work, for the same reasons the manufacturers version of an F1 series won't work.

They still make them, and keep revising them, and they are ridiculously large & powerful CPU's, which only a handful of companies need many of.

If you need a mainframe or a huge AIX box that can run 100% utilization all day, call IBM. Shy of that, run the fuck away from them as fast as humanly possible.

She's never had a project go over budget, over schedule and keeps her kiddies on a short yet stylish leash.

She does not get to work on Commercial accounts much as she always gets picked to clean up internal projects that have gone tits up.

During about 10 years from 94 on, to run two remote PM's out of this house, we had two AiX servers, a T1 to the nearest switching station [1.2 miles] and both an ethernet and Token Ring net set up. In 97 I flipped us over to Fiber optic ethernet at the home offices to keep things flying. That net is still in use although the AiX box met its maker after the fan died and cooked the processors one weekend. It was replaced by an Win2K Server so all was well. The big boxes are still FO but I am converting some to wireless.
