If you don't "Mind" the gap you could fall into it.

Thompson Twins: Into The Gap

When I was in London some years ago with my wife (who was from Peru) was forever amused at those "Mind the Gap" notices in the Underground. Talked about them for months afterwards, and thought they were hilarious, having only heard "American"... up to that point.

My mother, who was from Highgate, used that expression all her life, as "Watch it" is not something you'd ever say, in her time, with her background.
