I had a 1966 Toronado ,, fun car .. 425hp 455 olds , turbo 400 transmission , I think 1966 was first year for toronado . Took car on trip to Tennessee and averaged about 16 miles per gallon on gas . only problem was when you went to kick down and pass someone car would want to swerve back and forth ! one tire would try to slip and transfer power to other tire back and forth ,Hence pull right then left back and forth till you let off accelerator some .. was planning a olds 5.7 diesel transplant for better milage but starter on belhousing is on wrong side !! so I couldnt do it ,, but a great car overall !!! There was also a story about a company I believe it was Reese Hitch that made tortion bar hitch setups to pull campers I guess at the worlds fair they took a Toronado hooked up a camper and tightened the hitch tortion bars so tight they could remove the rear wheels and drive the car around !!! would have been fun to see !!!

Didn't the '66 have the 425 cid engine?

And 16 mpg sounds very frugal. Did you have your mum's shoes on?

Replace a 425 (not 455) with a 5.7 Diesel??? Are you on crack? I have a 5.7 Diesel so don't even start.
