The Delta 88 that the big Red rag top tennis court you had , the Olds looks much slicker. Do pick up this man if you see him on your test drive.

That one is all wrong.

He wants to check the Toronado. This is for the base model. The "Custom" is mentioned separately.

^^^^

I was curious because it has been parked a way up from the highway and I have passed-by dozens of times over the past couple of months and not been able to work out exactly what it was. So today on a whim I decided to detour and check it out properly. While I was poring over it, the owner came along and we had a long-ish chat about it. It doesn't have a vinyl roof and it had new paint about 8-9 years ago. There is no rust on the body and the chrome is literally perfect. It has been garaged. The 49xxx miles really surprised me.

Looking at those guide prices (which don't mention mileage) the guy's asking price sounds very reasonable, especially with £1=$2,10. However, the last time I had a 455, gas was 75 cents a gallon!

There aren't many left because they became popular to strip for Model-T dragster rear engine setups. Just drop the drivetrain behind the t bucket and run fifteen feet of rails out the front and you got a pretty inexpensive badass dragsters. Then when kit cars were all the rage, a lot of them got stripped for various kit setups. I would think the rareity factor would mean these will be very collectible.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

Get it! I bought a new '68 Toronado (tan/beige) when I was in graduate school and I loved it. At the time it was not only elegant, it was fast and very powerful. Mine had a 440 cubic inch engine--I think 400 hp--and it cruised all day long at 100+ mph. As I recall it weight close to 5k lbs. and even on the steepest, icy hills, it was like a tank. I recall going up a very steep and icy hill, pulling a U-Haul trailer and never broke traction. I had to actually weave in and out of other cars that were sliding down the hill and sideways in front of me. People looked at me like WTF! How's he doing that?

I can't recall what I paid, but I think it was like $4,800?? I sold it in 1970 for about $3,500, I think. Then I bought a new 280SL, which was also an incredible car though very different, obviously. I paid about $8,500 and sold it ten years later for $16,500!

I don't think you will be disappointed w/ the Toro. I bought it because my favorite TV detective (Manix) drove one and it looked sooo cool.

I found one on eBay: eBay Motors: Oldsmobile : Toronado (item 280174105551 end time Dec-06-07 13:58:05 PST)

Don't believe everything you think
