I think I've stumbled across the perfect way to avoid these little annoying expenses--the rent-a-pet. My neighbor's cat spends most of its spare time over here with me. She provides all the love and affection I require from a small furry mammal, without any of the expenses or responsibility. She curls up on my lap, she sleeps with me, she tracks fir needles in the house, she tips over my garbage--in short, she's the perfect pet. Look into it--it's the way of the future.

Is that breed of dog (Ridgeback) prone to these ailments? We've had no such problems with our Golden...kinda scary.

Rhodesian Ridgebacks aren't really more prone to various diseases than other breeds .... mine may have some funny genetics working against her, but she also (apparently) has the cat trait of nine lives (or more!). And I thought Goldens were high on the list for various forms of cancer??

It's all a crap shoot, I guess! Yeah, spending time with a neighbor's pet might be easier ....

Thanks for all the kind words from everyone. It means a lot.

@ ayshabo...It was a mast cell tumor that was removed and she just came through a bout with mange that was misdiagnosed (different vet/long gone) as allergies. At one point, it was suggested that we have her completely furless tail amputated. She is now cured and her fuzzy tail is now perfect, if I do say so myself.

@ Jim...My heart goes out to you on your loss. People are rarely allowed to properly grieve for their pets because they are "just animals" and somehow not as deserving of our affections. Please accept my sympathy and I am glad that you were able to keep a bit of your friend alive through his pup.

@ Cubes...as ayshabo stated, you just don't know. Like I said, 3 years ago, we had a tumor removed from the Jack Russell when he was only 5 years old.

Here's a pic of them both (yet again )...

Here's a shot of her ridge on her back...hence the name.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
