If Anacin is taking it out it is the caffeine hit from Anacin that is doing the job. [Note the very high caffeine content in Anacin and most Migraine meds in relation to other pain relievers].
I went through 3 years of tracking down headache issues and have been through every type of drug for them imaginable from Topamax [$400 per month] to a very nice cocktail of Xanax and Zanaflex that really works well but is a bitch to convince your friendly neurologist that you are not using them for a drug holiday.
It really depends where the headache is, how it functions, what kind of pain [radiant, pin ball, sharp, dull]
I finally got a neurologist who focused ONLY on headaches that taught at Columbia and appreciated a Systems Analyst on the other side. Between the two of us we got it MOSTLY nailed after only a couple of months.
The SysAnalyst is what found the XanZan mix one evening after borrowing components from friends at a party where I had a screaming headache.
Being smart is knowing the difference, in a sticky situation between a well delivered anecdote and a well delivered antidote - bear.
