You really don't understand how the tax system works. Most don't...
Taxes do NOT affect rich people. Rich people already made their money and paid taxes on it. After it's earned, it can NOT be taxes again.
If someone made $100,000,000 ten years again, they wouldn't be affected by this or any other tax increase because the money has already been taxed. This rich person will live lavishly the rest of their life and never pay a single cent to the federal government on that $100,000,000.
Taxes punish those who aspire to be rich. The most productive and driven individuals bare the burden of these taxes. These tax increases have very little effect to the bottom line of someone making $500,000 + a year. They can and do have a huge impact on a family making $75,000 or $150,000 year.
I truly wish people understood things better. Knowledge is power. The more you know the less they can bullshit you...
I know of no rich people who figure they have enough and don't have anymore income. What kind of rich people do you know?
One of the basic premises that fuels the difference between the rich and the poor in this country is the basic greed of the rich - yes, they have a disproportionate share of the gold, and they therefore do write the rules, which thoroughly favor the rich. Next time you wonder who gets the most services for their taxes, go to one of those rich friends' homes and call 911, report an assault with a weapon and time the police response. Or call in a fire and time the response of the fire department. Then go do the same in an inner city slum. Compare the results.
Or, go into a bank and ask for a loan as a rich bastard and then as a lower middle class guy.
Or see what kind of response you get from any aspect of the "system" that has been created and supported with our taxes. It is here to benefit those with wealth getting wealthier first and foremost. Therefore, since the rich benefit the most, they should pay the most taxes.
I agree the tax code is ripe for being revised as many of the perceived distinctions between the rich and the rest of us are no longer valid. Small businesses are in the same situation - they need be encouraged to grow big enough to support a healthier tax burden, not snuffed out when they are too small.
So, rich people will pay more taxes if the rates and code require they pay more taxes on their income. And rich people like income too much to give it up just to save taxes. Jim
