Hey guys: I am not prone to conspiracy theories of any kind, and I certainly hope the fires are NOT al-Qaeda-related. But to ignore the possibility, given the published reports and their propensity toward long-range, detailed plans to hurt us, I do not think we should ignore the possibility.

Too much of this fire is easily explained. I went through this in 2003 [I was in Santa Maria that month] and learned way too much about this crap. If it was a well organized plot there would have been MANY points of origin [hundreds], not just the 12 fires, of which 10 are easily explained. And every time they have these big events they have at least one or two douchebags who feels compelled to add to the excitement by starting their own little Disco Inferno. Sometimes it is just to hear the scanner in their area or to take pictures or to "save" the area by reporting it [but it gets out of hand].

This is just an unfortunate set of circumstance that nature and a welder and a couple of power lines and a catalytic converter set in motion.

I tend to agree w/ your scenario, but I heard a news report a couple days ago that two young men on motorcycles were seen possibly lighting fires in several locations. I've not heard anything about that since, but that is what got me thinking this might be part of something else.

I do not want it to be because all the kookbergers here would immediately begin blaming President Bush and calling his efforts to stop the terrorists from hitting us at home a failure. I'm not looking forward to that scenario, believe me.

But to an impartial observer, that would be the case, wouldn't it?

Wasn't that what you were promoting here? Didn't you pose this as a "kookberger" explanation that promoted Al Gore's position that global warming is detrimental, and that fires such as these might be attributed to climate changes (like droughts, unusually high temps and low humidity) vs. the much more sound logic that supports this being the work of Al-Qaeda?

If that wasn't your proposition for the rest of us to consider, what the hell was your point?
