"Furthermore, I don't understand why the UK wants them".
It's not a case of 'wanting them'. They are UK citizens who are entitled to the same rights and protection as any others. Remember the Falklands war?
sure do. There are a LOT of Irish expats and immigrants in San Francisco. Lots of Irish bars, too especially along the"Great Irish Way"
In the Falklands war, some of the Irish bars in the City were giving out FREE Afgentine Beer. All you had to do was just show up and drink it!!!
I had a couple friends there that were Irish, and were lawyers who had given me an open invitation to meet them at a bar in Noe Valley, where they could be found every day.
My wife liked them too, and encouraged me to go. Sometimes I did.
One of them was really Irish, from there in fact. Once he told me he had actually belonged to the IRA. So once, after a LOT of drinks, I asked him, "So you were in the IRA, well, did you ever kill anybody?"
And he said: "Yeah, I did. But they deserved to die"
He had this car it was a Mercedes Benz W116 300SD turbo, about a '79 or an '80.
He drank a LOT. I would always walk back home after the bar. But once, I got a ride in the Mercedes. I asked him where he got it.
He said, " I had this client, the Internal Revenue Service was after him. He had to run away back to Hong Kong, really fast. He had FIVE Mercedes.
The IRS grabbed four of them. But I got ONE, hahahahha!!!"
He told me he was actually an alcoholic. But he drank so much, he could actually drive the big Mercedes well after drinking all afternoon. You could never tell at all.
Finally, he couldn't stand it, he missed Ireland too much. He gave up everything here, and went back. I miss him, though.
It's true though. The Irish, though, they REALLY
do drink a lot. I know that.
