How completely brain dead ARE people?
Most of you know I work in IT, fairly regularly I'm asked about spam messages and it seems particularly those that promise you the moon or tell you about the guaranteed sweepstakes.
Although my spam filters are pretty good, occasionally one slips through. Here's just an excerpt from a recent one, with a few of my own comments in bold...:
2007 WINNING NOTICE
Dear Wow, they even left out the name...
RESULTS FOR OCTOBER 2007 CATEGORY "A"
We are happy to inform you that you have emerged a winner under the
OCTOBER. LUCKY DRAWS second Category, which is part of our promotional
The draws were held prior to your notification. Okay, so you are also not able to predict the future, otherwise you could have notified me before the draws, right?
Participants were selected through a computer ballot system drawn from
4,000,000names/email addresses of individuals and companies from
Africa, America, Asia, Australia, Canada, Europe, Middle East, and New
Zealand as part of our International Promotions Program.

And it also states...
"ANY BREACH OF CONFIDENTIALITY ON THE PART OF THE WINNERS WILL
RESULT TO DISQUALIFICATION."
Uh, oh. I think I just disqualified myself...
If this is representative of the stuff they're circulating, how in the world is anyone falling for it? I mean even if you're a really, really dim bulb, that's just screamingly bad, isn't it? If you're bright enough to turn on a PC and open a browser window, wouldn't you be too bright to fall for something that lame?
Oh, well, just thought I'd share. Hopefully some of you find that nonsense as humorous as I do.
