Land Rover Discovery...do I take the plunge?

I've wanted one for as long as I can remember and I came across this one today, I've already test driven it and (currently) everything on it works.

cars.com: 2003 Land Rover Discovery HSE

Yes I know the tend to break so I would definitely get an extended warranty.

Please only members who have had 2003-2004 Discos only.

Garage
I knew a guy with a '99 Discovery. He bought it brand new. Side lights fell off of it. To this day, it is the only vehicle I know of that suffered a cracked exhaust manifold. He couldn't dump it fast enough.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Well what the others said is true, I was comptemplating getting 1 here but when I started asking owners of them they advised against it, service is expensive here and they break all the time.....

If you get a good one it will do the job for you and be a great vehicle. If you get a bad one I hope you have a generous limit on your credit card.

I was seriously considering 2003 Disco when it was brand new, but reliability issues was the achilles heel. The Discos were seen everywhere in the early part of the decade but disappeared en masse because of lousy long-term reliability rating and fickle nature of the consumers. It's a nice roomy vehicle with distinct profile but the ride was uncomfortable and definitely had issues at high speeds, especially on a straight stretch ().

If you really fancy Land Rovers, why not look for a well-maintained Defender? I believe '97 was the last year it was sold in the US. They are definitely head-turners (love those jump seats in the back too).

Ha! $40K minimum for a decent one. Get a used G wagon, the prices are tanking.
