I commend you on your beard bravery. When my father retired, he grew whiskers and was the spitting image of Hemingway(purposely, I suppose). His demise was less dramatic but nevertheless I've kept a clean mug save for a short, itchy trial with an electric orange Van Dyke. I proudly own the Patek Phillipe of cordless razors, $145 of whirring depilitory power. If you were to rub my face and ass simultaneously you could not tell the difference but don't even think about it bucko!

Oh, and awesome pics!!!

Thanks.

The beard changes length some parts of the year [the profile pic is just about as long as it has been]. Christmas get it to be longer for obvious reasons.

This longer beard all started as a bet back in 1993 [who would push the IBM corporate look the most - I ALWAYS win]. Prior to that I had a very tight cropped beard and nearly buzzed hair [pretty much Major with a beard look].

Being smart is knowing the difference, in a sticky situation between a well delivered anecdote and a well delivered antidote - bear.

Well, yes. but for an obviously different reason.

From the angle on both Mercs, I am left to wonder just how tall you are. Maybe you carry a stepladder with you?

I really like the skyline shots, Mac. You've got a beautiful city there - I never knew. Those give me inspiration to buckle down and try something similar here in Tulsa, and perhaps in STL next time I visit.

Bummer about digital SLR's is that to get that really wide shot, you need a bigtime fisheye lens, and correcting the distortion they cause at the edges seems like it requires Photoshop. I'm still struggling with what to do about the 24-120 lens I have that became a 36-180 when I got the D200.

The D200 weighs about 4,000 pounds with the grip, batteries, and huge ass lens...any recommendations on a sub-$1,000 tripod?

Free one: drop trow, think of nice things, lean forward with legs spread then point an shoot while keeping your center of gravity in check. For some unfortunately all they will get are shots of blades of grass

^ I've tried that actually...the throbbing makes it tough to keep the camera still.
