Ok, I read the blog. We've got a horny 22 year old guy going to the mall to try and pick up on a girl he thought was 18. He found out she was 16 and backed off right away, although he kept her number. He is now thinking about calling her for a hookup. If you believe his version of events, she was in to him and offered up her phone number. Is 22 and 18 such a big difference? That's the same as a college senior picking up a college freshman at a party. Does that ever happen?
So as a father, would you have a problem with your 18 year old daughter getting picked up by a 22 year old? Or your 16 year old daughter getting picked up by a 20 year old? Or your 16 year old daughter having sex in the back seat of her 17 year old boyfriend's parents car? Is it her having sex or is it the age differential?
Again, if you believe this guy's version of events, she was in to him as much as he was in to her, and she was the one who offered up the phone number. So she isn't a novice at flirting or being picked up. That doesn't mean she was going to have sex with him, but this isn't her first rodeo either. You just need to teach your daughter as best as you can and then trust her to make good decisions. Giving your phone number to a stranger at the mall probably isn't a good decision, regardless of the age differential.
When I was 22, if I was single, and had the chance to hook up with a hot 16 year old who I initially thought was 18 or 19, I'd have probably done it. But I also probably wouldn't have wanted my friends to find out about it.
