Read the entire sentence: The Automated Targeting System has been used to screen passengers since the mid-1990s, but the collection of data for it has been greatly expanded and automated since 2002, according to former DHS officials.

Anyway, there wasn't any system in place to protect us during the Clinton years. Jayhawk told us so.

When oh when will we have the Database Of All Databases, where everything anybody ever done will be recorded and open to the proper authorities?

It is coming, soon, to your neighboorhood.

Give it five more years for the technology to really make it quick. Right now it is doable but the speed is not there. As Petabyte server farms become bigger/faster and processers become faster and software becomes quicker at indexing and querying expect to see the kids at NSA playing with one of these toys. It will hold all the important stuff on everyone. IBM's DEEP BLUE 2 Mainframe and SAN Array is even more robust but there is not a quick little data sheet for it.

- and the half-baked solution:

- only work for cash;
- pay cash for everything;
- no checking/savings accounts;
- no investment accounts;
- don't apply for any government benefits;
- get rid of your home phone;
- make sure your cell phone is registered on someone else's name;
- no cable/satellite;
- access internet from the public libraries only;

etc.

It is hard to even pay cash. If you buy stuff by mail you need to get either a MO or a Certified Check and banks are requiring ID for that now.

On the fun side of banking however, you know how if you take rolls of coin to a bank many times they require you to print your name on the side of the roll so they can insure it actually has $2 worth of nickels? Well next time you need a roll of change, make the clerk do the same thing for you. They really don't like that.

It is nearly impossible to get off the grid now. I only know of two families that are. And they really are.
