Well, the vehicle I wish I had taken on this jaunt was my Sportster. The SL is getting too old for long drives, she spends more time in storage than on the road these days, and I don't drive it much further than the beach.
Of the two treks I made, the trip through the Santa Rosa Mountains down CA 74 was more fun than the Joshua Tree thing, which was interesting at first but became monotonous after a while. I sure would have liked to have zoomed some of these corners on the old Harley:
