Game Console Help
After holding off for what seemed like an eternity, I will finally give in to purchasing a game console.
It will be used mainly by my soon-to-be-5-yr-old daughter. While I was a game addict until she was born, I really do not see myself getting into the abyss of gaming world (no multiplayer sessions, no Halo, no Final Fantasy, none of that). Certainly no first person shooter type games which I thoroughly enjoyed to be played in my daughter's presence.
She will play Lego Star Wars (what she wants for her birthday) and I will supplement the game titles with arcade classics such as Pac-Man and Centipede. If I were to get a title for myself to play, it would most likely be Katamari Damashii.
So here's the choice I will have to make:
Playstation 2 (not 3) - it's the budget route since I really don't foresee and really don't want to get too involved with gaming - I've got to work on the house and keep the house running and there's really no time for all that at this moment.
Nintendo Wii - One of the must haves for most of the kids and adults too. I also like the nunchak style playing (a tad bit more active ) rather than being sedentary except for one's digits. It will remain current for at least the next three years.
Katamari is not available for Wii at this moment and it may never be, but that's no big deal.
PS2 is the best-selling game console ever and it has plethora of game title to keep it going, while Wii is the hottest-selling and may perhaps come close or surpassing PS2 sales figure someday. With flagging PS3 sales, Sony may be on its way down, which may affect longevity of PS2 as well.
It reminds me of the time when I bought Apple II right after Macintosh came out. The situation I am in right now is analogous to then; Apple II was the best-selling PC ever and the list of software was enormous and that was the reason I bought it, yet I felt tinge of regret for not purchasing the Mac. That regret was justified in a mere two years, when Mac surpassed Apple II and relegated the latter into a cult item.
Based on that premise, I am gravitating towards Wii.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
