should i pay off my car!!!??!!!

yup the answer is i should!!! no brainer but now that i got your attention i figured i throw something out there! lol im currently 20 turning 21. i love mercedes and other german manufacts for life. I work hard to pay my own. Currently i own a 2002 clk430 silver relativily in good condition minus minor wear and tear. I want a new car (used but new to me) but dont want to make those crazy payments anymore if its a expinsive one. My clk430 w208 has 93500 miles on its clock. driving great! minus minor fixers. i am debating on modifying it or selling it and getting a c32 amg to modify cause there a great price for a amg and can do alot to upgrade that nasty supercharger!! what do you all think or skip plan a & b and go straight for the kill save the cash just get exhaust for clk (throw some more miles on it) and bank for the goal of a used e55 amg 2003-07 in a year or so?

give me your input

My suggestion is to buy used cars you can afford to pay cash for from individuals and not dealers. There are alot of early 90's cars out there for far less than 10k and mega low miles. Get one and save up for a home. Or just keep the CLK.

Ditto what Shane said. If you can learn the discipline at your young age of saving and paying cash for things up front, it will take you a long way in life. You could be "normal" and live with car payments and credit card debt, and lead a mediocre financial life, or you can live below your means, invest money as you go along and lead a great financial life.

There are too many people out there who have worked for 30+ years and don't have much to show for it. Don't be like that.

1999 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 Ext. Cab, 1998 BMW 540ia Sport, 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser, all old, high mileage beasts, but all paid for!!

I still love my CLK and it's still turning heads(and a few stomachs). Timeless body design imho. Never made a car payment in my life though. If I can't afford it, I don't buy it.

I'll proxy for Jayhawk, and offer that you should drive it into Sally Field while shooting a baby in the head execution style - preferably an Arab baby. Then make sure to write in "George W. Bush" in next year's Presidential election. Follow that up with a good 2 oz. of Cheney's Richard One Eye Snake Oil, and the last thing on your mind will be what pretentious wankmobile you should 'buy' next.

7 replies before Bush...we're getting slow, guys.

Sorry, I was out for Bourbon Ball Ice Cream. Let's try this:

Well, if we had a stable economy, instead of one run by Spyder Monkeys reading a Sanskrit Ouiji Board I would think you might be OK picking up something new BUT, considering the current circumstances, with the depreciated dollar against both the Euro and Asian Currencies, any purchase you make now would be laden with undue dollar downside and the current credit crunch will make it likely that your credit will be impacted by the continuation of our current slide toward recession [a hallmark of Bush Administrations].

So, as the sage advise of those above have said, keep the CLK, don't burden yourself with debt, determine what those monthly payments would have been for something different and stick that into an account that pays you money and start living a debt free existence instead of being part of the problems caused by the multi Trillion Dollar Credit Card Addiction that is wearing much of this country out.

There, does that cover the Bush thingie? [that sounds like a thong, doesn't it?]

Being smart is knowing the difference, in a sticky situation between a well delivered anecdote and a well delivered antidote - bear.
