Stevie Ray on PBS

Is anyone catching the Stevie Ray Vaughn concert series on PBS? The tape of an Austin concert where he played Voodoo Chile just blasted my windows out. I think my AV system needs an engine overhaul after that one. If you can stand the pitches for donations between sets, it is absolutely killer.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

SRV Rules

didn't catch it but I think I have seen the DVD. It was a very very sad day when the world lost SRV. I was in mourning (still am) for quite a while........what a guitar slinger! He had a magical power about the way he played that thing, didn't he? rest in peace, Stevie, if there is a rock 'n' roll heaven and I'm lucky enough to get there I sure want to hear him play!

I lived in Dallas when he, and brother Jimmie used to play Oak Lawn clubs.
Lots of talent, heavy gauge strings, and big hands, are sure to make a guitar sing.
My favorites were Peter Green and Duane Allman, and Johnnie Winter.

I dig the guys music , only seen him once back in 83 , but his music was imbedded due to a four week surfing trip to Morocco in 87 when our hire cars tape deck ate all our tapes with the exception of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble , we drove for weeks and weeks flipping over the same tape again and again and it only gave us a greater appreciation of the guy a true dessert island test of good music .

The last time I saw him was truly a last time. He played the Verizon Arena in Manchester NH, where he blew the audience's heads off. Two days later he was dead. He never was appreciated when he was alive.

Johnnie Winter, Jackson Browne, and David Bowie, were instrumental in SRV rise to fame. He played guitar on a number of Bowie releases, and Bowie got him the gig to play at a Rolling Stones private party in N.Y. The rest is history.
