So, you need tires and a brake job and that is a reason to trade the car in and get another? Seems like you have some wires crossed. I see that as a reason to possibly buy new wheels and tires, and, if the brakes have been fading in long downhill runs with curves, possibly upgrading the brakes when I change the discs and pads, and fluid. I don't get the logic here. The money exchange for cars is definitely going to cost you more than a good wheels and tires package and a brake job at the stealership.
And, chances are if you buy that Hummer ball and chain tied to the local fuel stop, you will be approaching a the cost of a very nice pair of tires for you Benz every time you fill up, which will be quite often compared to the Benz you have or a newer Acura. I don't get the logic and the choices make no sense either. And, show us a picture and we will tell you if you are hot or not. If you are hot, the car is nearly immaterial unless it is a red convertible. If you get a deal on GM junk, try one of those Solstice things. They come in red and the top comes off (the car anyway).
Hang in there for another year or so and get one of the new crop of Diesels. They will deliver over 40 mpg in the C Class size cars from Honda, Nissan, Toyota, VW, BMW and Benz. And they are equal to the present model gas versions in performance (unless you are going to be unrealistic and compare it to the AMG or BMW "M" versions).
