I also totally agree with "Feel the Love" and "germanstar" Lets all work for a better America. I love this country with all my heart. It is the best in the world but can also be better.
Back when I was working on the '00 Nader campaign, I encountered quite a few conservative Republicans who candidly stated that they disagreed with the man on most of his agenda, yet were supportive, primarily because he's principled and seen as incorruptible. There's a hunger out there for authentic folks with a vision, who say what they mean and mean what they say.
Interesting little tidbit -- if you didn't spend the 1 hour+ taking in the Ron Paul Google interview -- he actually mentions Ralph Nader at one point while describing his ideal of how our government was designed to work.
This Ron Paul has NEVER voted for a tax increase(NONE) and he has never voted to limit the gun rights of honest Americans. He is pro-life though, which is my only hang up with the man. He also comes from a Libertarian backround which has taken a bad rap. I am a registered Libertarian and some of the Libertarians I meet are pretty extreme. They what to reduce government by 50% ( a good idea), get rid of Social Security and other types of welfare( a good idea), and abolish the department of education( a bit extreme). We belive in personal responsibility with limited government intrusion on our lives. I am an immigrant to this country and these ideas represent what drew me to the USA. This country is getting way to Socialist but we can change it back to what the founding fathers would have wanted. My only other saving grace for Liberatarians is that Clint Eastwood is one.
As a Democrat, I am pretty much against every bit of what you are for here. Pro life? No fucking way. Eliminate Social Security? So old people can starve on dog food like they did in the old days? Etc. So where is the common ground? Those of us who belong to the American Civil Liberties Union are just that - civil libertarians. We believe the COTUS is simple and clear and means what it says: no one is above the law and we are all equal before it. Personal rights of privacy, right to be free from government snooping, the right to be innocent before proven guilty by due process, due process of law in regards to the waging of war by allowing it only through Declaration Acts, the right to be secure in our persons, all of these are rights that the neo-con fascists who tried to take over this country have attempted to eliminate, limit or make a joke out of. It is here where the Republican Party has left America. To be quite frank, at the executive level of government, I don't trust the Democrats much with it either - they will simply use the precedents set by the neo-cons to continue whatever of these practices furthers than own ends. The best solution to the war that has been waged on the American People by the GOP fascists to throw those fucking bums out, and replace them with a Civil Libertarian Congress and a Libertarian Executive. While Civil Libertarians are predominately Democrats, they can just as well be Republicans who have fled the neo-con holocaust. We simply need men who are true patriots and wish to essentially re-establish American Democracy.

a little food for thought. the word "register" comes from the latin "regal" or "belonging to the King". when one "registers" to vote, his or her vote has been hijacked. ANYTHING that is registered is confiscatable as in being a REGISTERED VOTER. Wayne LaPierre with the National Rifle Association has been singing this song for years. Registered guns = Guns that can and eventually will be taken. This actually happened in California.
Back to the voting issue. One goes to the 'polls' to vote. The government is merely "polling" the public. They don't give a damn as to what you REALLY think. They then hire some morons to count "hanging chads", "dimpled chads" and "puckered chads". After they determine you didn't know how to pull the correct voting lever, they turn the entire deal over to the Supreme Court for final decision and review.
Then the nine black robed cross dressers decide who will be YOUR president. Thanks for wasting your time at the "polls". First Edition Roberts Rules of Order stated that "any vote done in secret has no force or effect of law". A vote MUST be SIGNED and WITNESSED in PUBLIC before it has any force of law. NO SIGNATURE = NO VOTE. Stalin once said, (paraphrase) "It isn't important WHO votes...what is important is WHO COUNTS THE VOTES. GET IT? UNLESS AND UNTIL YOU SIGN THE DAMN PAPER AND SOMEONE WITNESSES YOUR SIGNATURE YOU HAVEN'T CHOSEN ANYONE EXCEPT POSSIBLY A MONKEY FOR PRESIDENT. Pulling a lever behind a circus clown curtain is absolutely MEANINGLESS. Perhaps you feel good and wear a "I voted" button. congratulations, you participated in the "democratic" process. Throw out Diebold and bring back the LEX NON SCRIPTA...Power to the People!!
PS. I'm all for guys like Ron Paul, but unless and until we seriously bear down on removing voter fraud, we'll never dig ourselves out of this mess. Tell 'em you are sick of their "hanging chads" and you wish to sign in blue wet ink (fountain pens are difficult to tamper with I'm told...) and bring two witnesses to the election board.
His paranoia obscures his Latin. The word "register" does not come from the noun regis, it comes from the verb regesta, to record. One must also point out that US elections, for all their shortcomings, are among the most highly supervised in the world, although we have much to learn from our British cousins. Oh, and the word "poll" comes from an old French word meaning "head".

I just don't understand why the USA can't elect me for POTUS. A fast car in every garage, abolish speed limits, legalize narcotics, condoms on every corner, balance the budget, weekly fireside chats with my dogs dressed up and doing all the talking, and fer chrissakes put some real money into public education. Flat tax too. Um, anyone that blatantly liters will be capped in the knees on sight.

I agree with most of with this; it's well stated.
But I am not a member of the ACLU

the guy would make a great president and I have contributed to his campaign but I don't think he will make it. If he does then I'd vote for him for president over any Dem who is running even though I am also a Dem. Otherwise I will be voting for ANY Dem if any other republicunt gets the GOP nomination for pres. I don't know what the picture looks like nationally but living in republican country here in NC, I have noticed that pretty much 95% of the doctors in my hospital are also planning on voting for ANY dem that makes it. They too are fed up with the culture of corruption of the republicans and empty promises from Bush regarding healthcare.

I too have contributed to his campaign although there is no chance he will win. I like that he is helping to open peoples eyes and starting to get people talking. It is this type of talking that will make changes in the future.
