Who forgot Pearl Harbor? I remember it as if it were only 66 years ago...

Well, we responded to the Pearl Harbor attack pretty well 62 years ago.

Maybe even too well.

I take it we are even with the Yamato people.

I disagree. Almost every commentary, as this anniversary approached, compared or at least referred to Pearl Harbor.

But that said, with the passing of WWII's generation it is inevitable that as a marker in US history, Pearl Harbor fades in immediacy. A new national affront takes it's place.

The King is dead, long live the new King, so to speak.

the whole thing is mind boggling. I think it was Jefferson who said that one of the things the US needed to was to have war on her on soil every so often. Sadly it's true. This nation wields so much power but the government and people are so lethargic that it isn't used for good... or anything for that matter. As horrible as 9/11 was some good might have come from it. It was a wake up call that though Americans might live in a nice safe bubble we are also a part of a turbulent world and are not immune to it. After the break up of the Soviet Union the US has been wandering aimlessly unsure of her purpose. Six years ago was the time the government to state that purpose. I'm not proposing what the purpose should have been. It could have been anything. Global warming, universal free trade, fair trade, paint the moon purple... anything! Instead we got a lot of double talk about "freedom" that amounted to trying to push through a bunch of senseless legislation and wars that were meant to create a "permanent republican majority." And I suppose Karma got them in the end, but unfortunately it also got all of us.

I would rather not waste my time arguing with you nor would I want you to experience any of the events which occured on 911 but for those who did experience it your niave attitude is not appreciated. I have friends fighting this war how about you? If you have this type of attitude take it else where, especially out of this type of post.
