I'm asking Jim.

Dear Jim,

I am a registered Republican who came to the Off Topic forum because it seemed interesting and informative. The was even an opportunity for a joker like me to blow off some steam and possibly entertain other posters with what I hoped would be some original posts and some fun polls. I was here to choose from the 'lite' menu.

Unfortunately, I arrived at a time when Republican 'leadership' was starting to become exposed as a deceitful, opportunistic group in the thrall of a few men whose egos were larger than their capability to run our nation. This unfortunate fact was discovered early by some vocal (some would say abusively so) participants of this forum who used any means at their disposal to voice their outrage and indignation.

This gave me pause. I had seen what I considered stunningly intelligent responses to difficult questions by these folks. Why, I wondered, was this approach abandoned when the discussion turned political?

Man,(in this case, the right side of the forum) being a creature of some habit, naturally tried to defend that which he thought was unthinkable. No one wants to admit that they have chosen incorrectly and many took up the defense of the indefensible. There was a great deal of intelligence displayed by these posters as well but surprisingly, I would frequently watch the wheels come off as their arguments would dissolve into what amounted to the "Oh yeah, so what?" defense.

I freely admit that while my vote went to someone other than my party's candidate, I was becoming embarrassed by the actions of the 'leaders' of my chosen political party. I understood the pain that many here were exposing as they tried to make sense of recent events.

So why didn't I jump in to help? Remember. I'm here for fun, first. Not blood.

But...

Beyond that, there was that insistent, strident voice. Screaming obscenities when reasoning and cajoling failed. Had I not read those previously well stated, reasoned and frankly brilliant responses, I could have dismissed it as churlish behavior.

Instead, I saw it as using every means at a person's disposal. The last resort.
There was nothing left but to draw the gun, aim it and fire.

I reexamined. I read (as much as possible but a pitiful effort when stacked against many here). I watched.

The Democrats had a chance to at least put the train back on the tracks but failed. Now the argument has devolved to the point of who's gayer and what about the old days when someone else made mistakes of a sexual nature.

I can't argue politics like most here and honestly, I don't have the inclination. I enjoy watching the heavyweights slug it out.

I'm still Republican and not in the mood to change. I want real fiscal responsibility. I'll cross party lines if I need to. I want my vote to count. I want to trust my party again.

My question is, do I stay with 'Dig Lite' or just return to the 107 Forum from whence I came?

Can you tell me the answer? Jim?

Dig-Lite,

Seems you are struggling with the view - is the glass 90% full of horrendous decaying fecal matter that renders the other 10% regardless of what it might be, impossible to detect and worthless, or is it 10% full of worthwhile ideas and meaningful exchanges make the 90% of horrendous decaying fecal matter more endurable, like a passing fart? Or something like that.

Well, it is a bit like a community, and it takes all kinds or maybe just has all kinds - I won't make an argument whether all the types are necessary. I don't know if you will find it sufficiently stimulating to stay with the Dig-Lite persona based on what you get to retain after dealing with the unpleasant parts, but based on what you give, it would be greatly appreciated by some, well, at least one, member of the community if you retained the Dig-Lite persona.

There is the occasional topic or thread that brings out a very broad spectrum of thoughtful contributions. Ideas and perspectives are exchanged, much the way Cuban noted in a recent post, that can bring about a broader perspective to us all. That to me makes it worthwhile, as, the rotting fecal matter can be recognized as such and skimmed without really getting any on you, once you have been here for awhile.

So, I don't have any answers for you, really. Only answers for me, and from my perspective I would like to see more, not less of Dig Lite on this forum. Jim

I have always enjoyed Dig's posts and to learn he is a reg. Republican is refreshing as I am a reg. Democrat. I just hate it when everyone is on the same side, always makes things too boring and counterproductive. Democracy works better when multiple points of view are represented. Both parties are not to my liking but the Republicans of the late two + decades are flat pathetic. Making up issues that are not important, spending like drunk idiots, and carrying on like high handed intelligentsia that fail to make the cut both socially and mentally seem to be the norm. So for now I am a Democrat but once these class A hypocrites are out of power then I will start hunting again.

animals, you know it's all your fault you pot stirring Pacific rimmer.

And Shane, it' not like we'll be swapping spit in the shower but your often cryptic, one word posts drive me to discard the obvious first response when I post and search or "dig", if you will, for a more unexpected take. I don't always succeed, but I try.

Not that you give a fuck, of course.

I think a carbon arc gouging set up might do you just fine. If that doesn't work, maybe one of those tazer tools rated at 120VAC plugged into a 220VAC outlet. Yeah, that should take care of your tain't ugliness. Jim
