Kohlberg's stages of moral development - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

The Kohlberg article was fascinating...I'll have to follow the links when I have more time and less drowsiness.

Citation or none, the assertion that "no one functions at their highest stage at all times" is dead accurate, and relieves some of my frustration. I've made arguments here at levels 2 through 5 - and always because I thought they were "right". I've never made a serious argument in which I didn't believe, but arguments made from the lower levels of that scale typically don't stand as much intellectual scrutiny as arguments higher on the scale.

I think it would be a gift to represent a position consistently to people at any stage of moral development; conversely, if you cannot do so (especially as a Presidential candidate for instance), the position in question is probably not one worth having.

^Bah! That is funny.

I feel that one should look deep inside the physical remains of an enemy for an answer so deep that it is as trivial and changing as rationality.

Ira Glass had an interesting take this week on "This American Life." He had people on who invariably listened to that inner voice of bad choices. Another great show.

I find the horoscope section of Britain's 'soar-away, high-flying' daily The Sun newspaper, is supremely consistent in its advice.
