Norway's Moose Population in Trouble for Belching

Norway's Moose Population in Trouble for Belching

The poor old Scandinavian moose is now being blamed for climate change, with researchers in Norway claiming that a grown moose can produce 2,100 kilos of methane a year -- equivalent to the CO2 output resulting from a 13,000 kilometer car journey.

Now poor moose are being blamed for global warming.
Norway is concerned that its national animal, the moose, is harming the climate by emitting an estimated 2,100 kilos of carbon dioxide a year through its belching and farting.

Norwegian newspapers, citing research from Norway's technical university, said a motorist would have to drive 13,000 kilometers in a car to emit as much CO2 as a moose does in a year.

Much like cows (more...), bacteria in a moose's stomach create methane gas which is considered even more destructive to the environment than carbon gas. Cows pose the same problem.

Norway has some 120,000 moose but an estimated 35,000 are expected to be killed in this year's moose hunting season, which starts on September 25, Norwegian newspaper VG reported.

Damn ruminants just have no manners at all. If they're not burping they're farting. I say we should boycott hamburgers and teach them all a lesson.

What, is it their consumption of hamburgers that causes the belching?

I hope they keep finding new and interesting places where vast amounts of CO2 are generated, that we didn't know about before - simultaneously proving that the early bandwagon jumpers didn't know jack shit, and that modern anthropogenic contributions to the atmosphere amount to fuck all as far as our ability to change the environment goes.

MMMM Moose , unlike the horse moose does not taste great , these fuckers get huge , and I mean HUGE . We used to bow hunt them when I was younger and the damage their bones would do to the muzzy heads of the arrow could be quite shocking . The biggest fear we have of the beast is not it's farts , but hitting one when driving , their legs are so long that when impact comes the car takes the legs out and the body of the moose comes straight through the windscreen of your car and you know the rest . I have two friends put in wheelchairs by the big bad moose ! More tigers can be the only answer to this problem !
