I'm not surprised at all.
I'm absolutely perplexed as to why the government has not trained a group of OTR(over the road) truckers to move their equipment, not that I'm complaining.
An average govt. contract pays roughly 6 times that of a commercial load.
For me to bring a load of citrus from CA to IL I can expect anywhere from 4k to 6k, a quarter of that eaten by fuel costs. Government contracts on the other hand pay 2 to 4 dollars per mile with a fuel surcharge. Essentially, you could drive a mere 1000 miles and make 6k.
