Krispy Kreme Closing Northern California Stores
Friday Last Day To Buy Sweet Treats
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Krispy Kreme donut shops are shutting down all over Northern California.
The doughnut maker opened over a dozen stores between 2000 and 2004.
The last store in the Sacramento area located on Greenback Lane and Sunrise Boulevard will close its doors on Friday, Aug. 10 at 9 p.m.
Fighting controversy over trans fats and accounting errors, Krispy Kreme hopes to stay open in other markets by expanding its menu. It will offer multi-grain donuts, ice cream and cold drinks.
"It was nice when they came to town," customer Elaine Blackburn said. "But there's other donut places If I want to splurge once in a while. I can go somewhere else. But we'll miss them."
Area gas stations and grocery stores will stop carrying the doughnuts as well.
Stockton's Krispy Kreme will also say goodbye along with Concord and Fresno locations.
Most of the Bay area locations will remain open including Mountain View and Daly City Union City.
