Why shoot a snake in a tree at all? The only venomous snakes in the area are pit vipers, and you generally don't find pit vipers in trees. So, it was just some harmless little creature (rather like a tree squirrel) minding its own business, that would have slithered off on its own in short order. I have a lot of family that I would call rural, and they're the same way. 'You saw a what? Did you kill it?'. Dipshits.

Tough week to be a 5 year old. When are we going to do something (seriously) about banning minivans in this country?

Mom Accidentally Runs Over 5-Year-Old | World Latest | Guardian Unlimited
LINDENHURST, N.Y. (AP) - A mother accidentally ran over her 5-year-old son as she moved her minivan to a different location outside her home, killing the boy, police said Monday.

Christine Schilling told police that after moving the vehicle at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, she discovered her 5-year-old son Jacob lying beneath its tire. The exact circumstances of the accident were not known.

The 1995 Chrysler minivan was impounded for a safety check, but no charges were filed, Suffolk County police said Monday.

Earlier this year, the Suffolk County Legislature voted to require auto dealers to distribute safety tips to buyers, warning them about the hazards of ``backovers.''

The parents of several Long Island children killed in backover accidents are also lobbying for legislation in Congress that would set minivan visibility standards, said Janette Fennell, founder of the Kansas-based Kids And Cars.org safety advocacy group.

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration estimates there are at least 183 backover fatalities annually; children 15 and younger accounted for 145 of those fatalities. The second-largest group were people older than 70.

Any fool knows to check the back drop potential of their round before letting it go , so so many hunters used to get killed this way. Someone who gives away their Darwin award should be locked in the village stock's , hey my boy's four and a big half as he like to tell everyone , so my heart goes out to his mum and Dad . Guns are not the issue here and little can be done for the poor wee chap . But the lotto we could run on ' old quick draws ' IQ could come up with new improved BWOT bench mark cut off line to giving a snake hating fucktard a loaded gun or the letter R on their gear stick .

There was an officer south of here, that was placed on administrative leave with pay because he DID'NT shoot. There was a deer that was hit by a motorist and severely injured. Several persons including an animal lover insisted the officer shoot the deer to put it out of misery. The officer refused, stating there were too many passerbys and motorists that could catch a ricocheted bullet from doing so. The deer was then bludgeoned to death with a shovel and a sledge hammer by a highway worker. The officer was cleared in the incident but he went through several weeks of hell, all because, unlike the OK officer, he WAS thinking of other's safety.

Cops are just a reflection of society. Don't expect the really bright ones to go into police work...for the pay they get and risk they take.

Snakes....snakes on the MF'ing plane.....

I feel sorry for the cop in this case, as he did not mean to hurt anyone, on the contrary, he felt by killing the snake he would be doing people a favour.

Hey, QBNCGAR. I think he has a point. After all, if guns were illegal in this country then citizens wouldn't call the police to come and shoot snakes out of trees that are hissing at passers-by...instead they'd call them to throw their bobby-sticks, eh?

Seriously, the more I think about this the more I hope they prosecute the officer for negligent homicide. Unless there is a specified need to use deadly force there is absolutely no reason to discharge a weapon into the air. It's his fault -- no one else's -- that the boy is dead. Maybe if completely moronic use of a firearm results in some enforcement of common sense laws and rules, stupid people will think before they do something this senseless because every law enforcement agency in the country will change their training regimen.
