First off, you guys are f'in ass hats to be discussing racial issues and political BS. people died here!!! f'in be considerate!

i literally crossed that bridge about 5 minutes (i crossed at ~5:59pm) before it fell. im not kidding!!! had i stayed in traffic and not use my crafty traffic manuevering skills, i "may" have been on that bridge. scary thought...

since i live 1.5 miles away, i went back there, its nuts, it absolutely nuts. something to see in person, i just can't put the words to it... i guess im still in shock. but my lights went dim and and i felt like a slight earth quake, i knew that it wasn't good...

anyways, glad im still here!!
Aj

Couldn't agree more, breathtakingly inappropriate. And thanks for the report -- this is a day I'm sure you'll never forget.

Reminds me of the movie 'Mothman Prophecies' where there was a bridge collapse because of a malfunctioning traffic light held up too many cars, more than the bridge was designed to hold. I wonder if that were the case here. All those slow moving cars coupled with the resonant vibration of the engines running may have done it in.

well i can tell ya, they were doing renovations to this bridge for the last 4 weeks. they hacked up the concrete on two lanes (of the 4 per side), filled, then moved to the other 2 sides. they hacked up the rubar and layed new ones. i honestly feel that the work they were doing had to have compromised the structural integrity. the way this bridge was designed was different then most. not sure how to explain, but 3 sections are tied together with one main support beam. if one fails due to stress (as mentioned by cmitch), the whole damn thing comes down. and thats basically what happened. the middle went down first, just dropped out of the sky basically, then the rest crumbled along with it. i cannot stress enough the sight i saw when i went back. something like looking at 9/11. just nuts... thats my main road of commute when i go to work or anywhere. i live basically RIGHT there. i dunno what i will do now...

Wow-those pictures are dramatic. It's actually a miracle that so few lost their lives.
