The guy is already imploding. He can't attract any campaign financing because the insiders know he is just a big empty suit. I wish his supporters would point out one thing this man has accomplished other than being a ham actor.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

Maybe you can point out what the two main contenders on the left have done that is so great?

Sure Hillary Clinton and anudduh guy do lots of wonderful tings alla time.

The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and that’s what I intend to reverse.

Strawman time again, so soon? It's fun to continually point out that that is all you guys are capable of. Let's see if you can actually talk about Sen. T.N.T Reruns. What did he accomplish in the Senate? I say "nothing of any note". Do you have a response to that, some issue he has championed or some bill he sponsored into passage? Is it even possible for you an Botnst to make an actual point in his favor?

Amazing! Another bait and switch, and Bot is right in the mix, pushing the switch. How is Hillary pertinent to a thread about "the next Reagan?" The question was asked, legitimately, about the record of Fred Thompson in light of his lack of real support in the "currency that counts," which is campaign contributions. Unless he can run an overpowering campaign on a fraction of the cash Rudi and Mitt are raising, he is dead meat. A discussion of his talents and abilities, bolstered by some examples, that make him such a viable candidate would be most helpful. Merely declaring him the next Ronald Reagan is little more than cheerleading. Not that he doesn't need some cheerleading, but it would be nice if there was something to his candidacy, something tangible and specific, that one of you fans could point out.

I read his Wikipedia file and have to commend him on his role in putting Nixon on the hot seat and ultimately doing him in. I also thought his vote against impeaching Clinton was a good decision. Not so sure I find his acting ability all that noteworthy - typically pretty simple and similar lines in simple and similar scenes in his TV show.

So, what is it you find so appealing? Jim

He annoyed me in the restaurant scene in Law and Order when he made a decision against an accused immigrant while ordering a drink from a Hispanic table server. This of course means everything. TV is real.

To those who ask what did Fred accomplish in the senate, I'd have to ask what any of our recent presidents (or senators, for that matter) had accomplished prior to winning the office? GW, allegedly a decent governor, not really distinguished prior. Clinton the same, not much to be accomplished in Arkansas anyway, but slick on camera. GHW before, Reagan legacy. Hell, what did Reagan do prior to leaping into governorhood or the presidency? I know California liked him, but until he stood up in front of the people of the other 49 states, and communicated his visions and principles in his own exceptional way, who knew? these days, the presidency is all about presence, style, and which way you lean (we've leaned right for many years). Thompson has those things, but his liability will be disconnecting GW from the right (ie - conservatism). I'd like to see him run with Ron Paul, make a nice step in the right direction.

You answered your own question - Reagan showed himself capable of being President by being a capable governor of our largest-population state. He showed a conservative could work with a heavily Democratic legislature, and he showed that he was a man of principle. I have seen nothing of the same from Thompson, he is a senator from a backwater state who is a member of the most partisan wing of the most partisan party in history, who now wishes to command the Bush neo-fascist wing - the last thing in the world we can expect from him is the ability to work with a mutual consensus aim. And as far as principle goes, the scum bag lied about having worked for an abortion clinic, and didn't fess up when he got caught when the New York Times found copies of his billing records. Reagan wouldn't have worked for an abortion clinic if you held a razor to his balls.

If you are looking for presence and style alone, you deserved every minute of George Bush. Just what we need, another phony front man for huge special interests, this time masquerading as Reagan.

I can't help but see his endorsement of Scooter Libby's escape from justice as an endorsement of the Bush administration in general. That may play well with a certain diminishing crowd in this country, but it didn't play well with me at all.
