I just hope they don't overreact and kill all chase videos because I do enjoy a good chase.
"VFR" rules of the road are simple, see and be seen. Keep your head on a swivel and watch out for the other guy. There should have been a 1/4 mile horizontal seperation, and at least a 500 foot vertical seperation.
Damn I hate when this kind of thing happens....

Good luck w/ that. Which network will defer to the others?

They can either take turns or agree to pay a fee to one of the stations. I bet legislation to force them down that path (or a similar one) is looming, at least locally......

I really hate to see folks killed in these unnecessary events. Hopefully someone will decide that police chases are not entertainment and require clear skys over urban areas. There is enough traffic with air ambulance, police choppers and now DHS and ICE surveillance aircraft in metro areas that adding superfluous aircraft to the mix is, well an accident waiting to happen.

Bruce is dead on, whoever allowed those two choppers under 1200H an 500V needs fired from their little ATC job.

There are VERY SPECIFIC RULES when flying. They chose to ignore them in the interest of pretty entertainment video of an inconsequential car theft.

It can't be justified as "in the public safety" as none of the other drivers on the streets would be privy to the TV broadcasts to be warned of the "chase". This was a simple Death by Ratings.
