That the FBI intentionally burned the place? Janet Reno, who had Republican congresses to deal with, never was accused of lying to Congress. You right wingers spend more time excusing criminal conduct by your leaders than you do talking about the issues these days. Mr. Gonzalez is so obviously guilty of perjury even those in his own party are abandoning him. Tell me, what felonies was Ms. Reno obviously guilty of?

It's always wonderful to get your responses. I'm sure one of these days you'll figure out how to make a statement without profanity.

Anyway, Armed gunmen took the child, lots of firepower and intimidation need for that!

If your trust of the government is so strong, then you go ahead and believe the wrap-up report from the Reno justice department on their version of the story of how the fires started.

The republican congress at that time didn't bother to conduct hearings on a lot of the stuff that went on at the White House because they already knew the answer they would get ala Hillary! -- "I don't recall".

Mr. Gonzalez is truly an embarrassment. If these idiots at Justice would have just said up front that the firings were at the Presidents discretion, then that should have been the end of it.

How, knowing what you know now, can you possibly make the statement I have bolded and changed to red? Do you not believe the actual intent and goings on are the shameful and embarrassing aspects of this Justice Department? Gonzales has no compunctions about lying to Congress. He has no ethical conflict with turning the Justice Department into a neocon political arm to subvert the United States Constitution. None of that seems to bother you, only that they have been discovered! Amazing. Jim

Objection, non responsive.

You are unbelievable. Your answer to Jim's question is in the exact same vein as Gonzales' to the Senate.

Evade, deflect, equivocate....you seem to be taking your cues from the Attorney General

It's laid out for you in bold red to make it easy. Can you even answer?

One of my all-time favorite posts:

The people in charge of the Republican party aren't conservatives and haven't been conservative for years. Right-wing, yes, but what have they done that can remotely be described as conservative? By contrast, when the Democrats are in charge, deficits fall. There is a difference.

In fact, the real difference between modern Republicans and Democrats lies in the GOP's contempt for tradition - the impeachment of Clinton; the policies enacted by Ashcroft and Gonzales; the invasion of Iraq - all of these things are the actions of radicals, not conservatives. Consider also the scandals of each party. Democrat scandals concern things like illicit sex and lying under oath about illicit sex. GOP scandals concern the subversion of our government - Iran/Contra; the politicization of the Department of Justice; Jack Abromoff - those sorts of things attack the heart of our democracy.

I take it you've not read much about Abraham Lincoln?

I don't read a lot of non-fiction -- including here on BWOT -- (har, har) but one of the best books I ever read was "Lincoln The Unknown" by Dale Carnegie. Sure doesn't describe a life of privilege, nor did Lincoln himself.

The rest of your comment rings true...the elite are not necessarily the politicians, however, but they often control the politicians. Yet another reason to get out of the stupid two-party system that glorifies people with cash when the pigeonhole themselves into a bs category.

Not that I have an opinion, mind you.

There is no such thing as "president's discretion" in the US Constitution. The President can do whatever is in his power, but our form of government requires that he and his officials testify truthfully their reasons for whatever action they take. Are you opposed to that?

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

Lincoln was actually a rich man when he became President.

Even Abraham Lincoln, who routinely touted his youthful poverty, was relatively well-to-do. At the time of Lincoln's birth, his father owned two farms of 600 acres along with several town lots, livestock and horses. Five years later, Thomas Lincoln was listed among the richest 15 percent of property owners in his Kentucky community.
