Emergency Landing

Last Thursday Martinair charter flight originated from the island of Margarita (Venezuela) landed at the International Airport of Curacao with three holes in the outer part of the Boeing aircraft where the fuselage is located and under the cockpit.

Passengers say how a plane could fly with holes outside the fuselage. After the plane was inpsected by the captain the remaining flight to Amsterdam was cancelled awaiting investigation and repair crews.

Many vacationers where stranded and the airline was searching for hotels to accomodate all the passengers.

Today the Martinair aircraft is parked at the airport.

What kind of holes, and how big?

There was (3) holes the size of a football in the outer skin of the aircraft. Exposing the insulation materials surrounding the fuselage which was visible. Also there was (1) a huge dent or scratch right below the cabin before the cockpit

A picture was published in a local morning paper the next day after Martinair landed. I searching for the picture and post it.

Sounds like the plane hit something on the take off roll. A rifle or cannon would have blown a hole clean through the plane, or at least into the fuselage. If the plane hit a bird, even at flying speed the only damage it could do is if it hit head on, anything else would be a glancing blow and at worse might have left a dent….
Obviously only guess work...

The passengers say that they did not know that the aircraft had holes in it and how did it fly perfectly to Curacao. After landing the crew inspect the holes and dent and decided to cancel the flight.

Aircraft can take a lot more damage then most people think they can. The pilots may not have even known they were hit until they saw the damage on the ground.
