You want a really good car cheap? Buy a '90 to '93 Q45. No kidding. Drive a good one hard before you dismiss. All you need to do is install Stillen front rotors (factory are tissue paper) and go. Reliable, torquey, and with good proportions, it is the sleeper damn near no one knows about. Exhaust, intake, and rear end gear change and you are as fast as a '99 S600.
Oh I have toooooo damn many cars and all are better and newer than the infinity you are talking about. I wasn't going after "cheap" car, rather I have always loved the looks and lines of the RR and Bentleys. That was what I wanted but you guys have talked me out of it. In a couple of years I still may go for a 2000-2005 model. Thanks for all the advice. You along with others may have definitely saved me from a lot of heart ache and trouble. THANKS!!!!!!!

^Go Phantom or don't go at all. BMW engineered it and built it. It is wonderful. '00 to '05 is better but not enough.
You could get a pregnant frog (aka bentley continental) but it is engineered and built by Audi/VW. That scares off all the people in the know.

Bentleys are the perfect cars for the pompous assholes with the money to burn. Don't try to talk him out of this.

Pregnant frog, love it

Eh... Well I spent much time around these cars and the older ones were almost 50% GM. I could have fallen over when I seen that Thomas Hearn’s RR had a GM double din stereo installed.

While I do like GM, I don’t think that the luxury market should be able to sell GM re-boxed parts at outrageous prices. Kind of makes me think of the miller high life commercials-

You just lost your right to sell GM is what you did

Anyway, I think the Jaguar engines although a PITA, are worth the work when done right. They just look so damn mean. They should have just fused two of these engines together to make the V-12 but they got carried away and the clean look of the 4.2 is more impressive in my eyes.

I have been in the older RR and Bentley vehicles and honestly the high end W126 of their generation blows them out of the water.

Designo_E320 may have liked the S-Class Mercedes back in the 80's, but the fact still remains that he can not afford one even today.

I picked one of these up for the local Benz dealer a few months ago and spend about 200 miles in it. It is a VERY nice car. It is smooth and quiet at 140 how a new CL feels at 110-120. Black on Black is slick.

I totally understand about the beauty of the design. It is fantastic. To generalize the English have and still do (Range Rover) build the best looking cars or utes around, but they build no backup or fallback systems. There simply is no margin of error allowed in the design. This is tragic. Cars are very intricate comparatively and something will always be failing regardless.
Reminds me of the lotus engineers who were paid to design the 5.7 Liter Corvette ZR-1 engine. They couldn't believe GM made them test, retest, and long term road test the engine. You could tell that they would never do it and that they thought it was overkill. The ZR-1 engine is a proven 200k mile entity.
Just goes to show you.

About a year ago I drove a Phantom around Austin Texas one weekend. Gawd what a car! Drove like a big, soft, butter creamy, powerful luxury car. It was happily not trying to be a blatant Teutonic sports sedan. That is nice but would have been a huge mistake for a car like this. Not everything needs to drive like a Honda Accord or BMW 3 series.
The car also garnered lots of praise, something that surprised me. Only late model car that I have driven that got more positive attention was my '88 Corniche. Funny that. I remember some guy in a new '07 S550 treating me like royalty and rather awestruck regarding my old rolls. Told him his benz has more thorough engineering in its door handle than my rolls has in its entirety.
