Düsseldorf, one of my favorite Cities

Düsseldorfs 'Kö', short for Königsallee (Avenue of Kings) is a street full of sidewalk cafes, restaurants and bars. It's a fun City with the Altstadt (old City) for the tourists and my favorite Oberursel across the Rhine.
At one end of the Kö is the HQ of the German metal institute, whose director parks his clear coated stainless steel or aluminum cars (usually Porsche) outside.
They started this long before De Lorean.

After an incident in 1848, when horse manure was thrown at King Friedrich Wilhelm IV, the road was renamed "Königsallee" ("King's Avenue") as a gesture of goodwill

If you have the time, Lucky Luke has several great Düsseldorf Picture Threads, after his second post, the links are at the bottom of his posts: Düsseldorf: Our Champs-Élysées - The Königsallee - SkyscraperCity

I used to spend a lot of time in that City for our partner in an joint venture in Iran, and for several years kept a home there (hate hotels).

After the pictures, I am now trying to figure out, whether I can get away for a bit.

Teutone,

Just to the East and South is one of my favorite towns Coburg. It is the home of Ehrenburg town castle as well as the castle Veste were Martian Luther was exiled. Had the famous Coburger sausage grilled with pine cones on hard rolls, washed down with Pils beer of course. Although I was there on business for an extended time, I was treated like family and taken in by many locals for dinner and traveling. If you ever get over that way I would certainly recommend a stop overnight.

Teutone - das stimmt!

When I was posted to Bonn a hundred years ago I remember having one of the greatest lunches (oops, Mittagsessen) ever on Koenigsallee. Let's see if I remember it... Aehezupp, Halver Hahn (which ain't chicken but a local cheese specialty with carraway seeds), Vierkornbrot and liters and liters of Alt. Yummm!!!

I remember East Berlin and Dresden when the wall was still up. Check point Charlie was an experience, especially on the 'other' German side.
Very depressing and grim. People were afraid to be seen talking to a 'Westie', easy recognized by the clothing.
It was like going from a color cinema scope film to black and white.
I am glad that is over. German retirees feel the pinch, because of the immense investment (forgot how many trillions) to bring the former East up to par (especialy environmentally). There are quite a few Germans who say they should have build the wall 10 feet higher.

As to Düsseldorf, one of my oldest friends studio there does a lot of TV spots.
Way back he apprenticed with David Bailey and Michael Joseph in London. Anyone remembers the club 'Revolution?'

In the old days we would have a space at the Igedo four times a year.
And yes, the food is pretty good with the Alt Beer, a Düsseldorf style brown ale.
