Its the fear factor that has most young voters not voting and not seeking the knowledge. Ross Perot represented real change, and the man actually had an outside shot at winning the presidency. In the final analysis, he was overtaken by his own psychosis, and in plenty of time, luckily for the rest of us. Of course, he did have one thing going for him that most free thinkers lack -- about a billion dollars...

In the meantime, our best chance lies in a 10-term GOP congressman from Texas. Any day now, FTL is going to realize the folly of his cause and go to work for the man.

I would hardly say that a Hillary Obama ticket is unbeatable. I know a number of strong democrats that will not vote for Hillary, period.

At this point I would asses the next presidential election as such. Currently it is the democrats to lose. All they have to do is nominate a decent candidate and they will have the next president. I am not convinced they are going to be able to accomplish this feat.

After Hillary or Obama recieve the nod the "balance of power" shifts to the Republicans. It is at that point their election to lose. The same condition applying to their chances at this point. If they can nominate a reasonable/decent candidate they will retain the white house.

The Republicans have more of an uphill battle but all you have to do is look at the last presidential election. The dem's should have won the white house but they nominated lurch who proceed to pick his hillbilly cousin as a running mate.

^^ What he said.

Man this politics stuff is easy, how about a hard question?

LOL. I realy appreciate the intell passed around in this thread which has helped me to view things in a new light. I know its big business making it happen. When it comes to politics I feel like an ant in a field of elephants. I dont know if I should be honored to have been alive during this administrations history making criminalized activities or sadden by the fact that we are nee deep in shit. I need to do alot more research on how to make change.

This may be the year that US voters will break w/ the political establishment (i.e., current Member's of Congress)--just look at the polls. The President looks good by comparison. The next president is more likely to be an "outsider" than at any time in the past. My personal favorite is Mitt Romney, but I just cannot see a HillBilly/Obambi ticket actually winning. When we get in that voting booth we all get very serious about who will protect us best and keep us employed and well-fed. Politics seem a lot less important in the confines of that little booth.

And no bear: I have no idea who the first white woman/black man candidates were. Please don't keep us in suspenders...

Don't believe everything you think

OK McBear, I went thru the tread and don't see an answer. I don't know either, but I saw/heard who it was when Michael Beschloss was talking about his latest book on the News Hour. "Presidential Courage 1789-1989" About 12 that made a difference, contrary to public opinion, and did the right thing. I'm thinking about getting it but non-fiction isn't really my bag.

Soooo, who is the white Presidential (male) candidate and his running mate?
