Occam's Razor vs. The Immaculate Conception

Some friends from work and I had this discussion over lunch. One said it was "almost over-the-top blasphemous", so I figured it'd be prime fodder here.

So, the question is this.

If, today, a woman who was either dating a man or just married to a man and hadn't yet consummated the marriage, became pregnant (all the signs, tests showed positive, etc), which story would the man & the rest of society be most ready to believe. A) The pregnancy was the work of an immaculate conception, placed in her womb by God....or B) She was fucking the mailman.

Rewind about 2,000 years, when adultery was frowned upon much more harshly than today. Same question. Is Joseph being punked by Mary, or was Jesus actualy the son of God?

Lots of shit - almost all of it, actually - is based on the premise that Mary's conception was 'immaculate'. What if it wasn't?

What's the problem?

If God can create a universe, a virgin birth is a peace of cake.

The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and that’s what I intend to reverse.

Can't you all wait until Sunday? I will have all the answers for you!
Seriously I know this space scientist that will be presenting this Sunday at church a God Communicator he built. We were all asked to compile a bunch of questions we wanted to ask God so maybe I will throw that one in We will also be discussing the Pope's assertion that our denomination is composed of heathens.

Wasn't the whole 'virgin birth' thing a Roman pagan add-on?

Yeah, it's all just been an immaculate misconception.

That's almost as big as Six Flags over Jesus

Being smart is knowing the difference, in a sticky situation between a well delivered anecdote and a well delivered antidote - bear.

Yeah, it's pretty ostentatious. I keep asking "How many people could have been helped / lives changed, with the money that went into this thing?"

We should christen it "The Avarus".
