Care to explain?
I was making the insinuation that if your clergyman hasn't kicked you out for questioning the Old Testament, he must fancy your kids, because after all, that's what they seem to do best. Please know that I was being a smart ass, and have no idea whether or not you have children - that was meant to attack the Catholic church, not you.
That said, in response to your earlier post, if you continue patronizing a religious institution that has a documentable history of protecting it's own from public or criminal persecutorial scrutiny following their reprehensible actions (especially if you contribute a single red cent to them), then you're culpable. That's "aiding and abetting" in copspeak.
In your example, if the law enforcement officer you described enjoyed protection by his superiors, subordinates and peers, who shuffled him out of public view and prevented his records from being brought to light, then yes, all of them would be guilty.
What makes the Catholic issue worse is that you're not compelled to give them money - you do so freely, voluntarily, willingly, and all despite the abundance of information indicating what's going to happen with it.
The church may be great, but stop donating to their pedophiliac sociopath club and see how long they last. Doling out billions to the families of children to whose lives and psyche they've repeatedly laid ruin isn't a long-term strategy for success. That's your money they're paying out. That money belongs to each and every Catholic, and by allowing it to continue happening by filling your envelope each week, you're condoning and endorsing their stewardship of those funds. You're guilty, motherfucker, until you stand up for what is right and just.
If you think your chances at salvation can't withstand a revolution of decency, whereby parishoners march into their Diocesan offices and demand immediate, public action
at the highest levels, then you're an even greater fool than the term "practicing Catholic" could describe.
Let us know how you plan on explaining your passivity and your tacit condonation of child sexual abuse to St. Peter. Maybe if you say enough Hail Mary's and do a few billion rosarys, they can grant you some absolution. From what I hear, there's no matter of sin that a sufficiently large check won't help them to absolve - I guess those people are betting their souls on the premise of dogma. Good luck with all of that.
