Boundaries should be respected for each religion and religious shrines for all religions defended.
A peace-keeping teams comprised of both the WEST and EAST should be based there permanently to defend the 'Holy Land". Armies of all countries should be included in the peace keeping force and this force should NOT be governed by the US or UK. It should be governed by elected leaders in a manner consistent to that of the United Nations and the leaders changed every 2 years. This should be a police state. No police should exist and all the police work should also be done by the peace keeping military force.
Jews, Muslims, and Christians would live in peace. Nobody would be above anybody else and all would have the same rights. Any nation or a group of people that would even try to destabilize this should be annihilated by the peace keeping force. Justice for all inhabitants would be served military style. This would also become one of the greatest tourist attractions in the world IMO. I will be visiting there soon, hopefully.
A nice dream, but impossibly naive I'm afraid. Why? We've already heard some very good reasons. I'll add a few of my own.
1) Some of the holiest sites in all three of the monotheistic religions are within a 3 square mile area of each other. There is no way that Muslims or Jews will agree to cede any sort of control over those sites. Religion is one of those rare things that people are in no way rational about. If you accept a compromise on religion you fail that religion.
2) There are too many extremist forces, on both sides of the equation, that have too much to lose if peace ever came about. They aren't about to cede the power and influence they have. The chaos and fear suits their own purposes and they don't want to be made irrelevant.
3) Other nations (including but not limited to the US and Iran) choose to fund, arm and exploit those extremists to further their own political agenda. There is no way they will give up the influence that their militant clients give them.
4) The hatred is probably too deeply ingrained for all parties to get along with each other. Look at places like former Yugoslavia, Iraq or Rwanda, or to a lesser extent Ireland, for some good examples of what happens. The only thing that kept those countries from disintegrating into civil war is despotic military rule that keeps the people firmly in check with fear. Kind of like what kept Iraq working as a nation state.
The Jews, Muslims and Christians may all be "children of Abraham", but I think that hurts more than it helps. For some reason we're more prepared to be heinously cruel to our brothers than to complete strangers.
